Beautiful, varied snowshoe hike in the foothills of the Alps

The idyllically situated Wägitalersee is a reservoir that was built in the 1920s in the varied mountain landscape. The Bockmattli is well known as a climbing mountain. Not to forget the 200 rather unknown caves in the Wägital as well as the 22 managed alps.

The two panorama points Nüssen and Rosenhöchi are located on the watershed between the Sihl and Wägital valleys. Here, the Fluebrig 2099m holds a special position: as the last cornerstone of the Druesberg chain, it breaks off with an approximately 700-meter-high flank towards the north and towers over all the adjoining hills and crests by at least half a kilometer. The advanced position makes the Fluebrig a landmark visible from far away between Sihltal and Wägital.

The Sihlsee is flowed through by the Sihl and is a reservoir in the high valley of Einsiedeln. The lake has an area of 10.72 km², making it the largest reservoir in Switzerland in terms of surface area.

Our historical tour end point Euthal at the upper end of the Sihlsee was first mentioned in 1331 as Öital. The very rural village comprises numerous hamlets and farms.

Program*

9.00 h        Start at the Wägitalersee 906m with a view of the Mutteristock, Ochsenchopf and in the distance the Glärnisch. Further west lies the Fluebrig, whose image will accompany us the entire snowshoe hike. We climb over the broad ridge of the Eggstofel to our 1st vantage point Nüssen 1529m: at our feet lies the Wägitalersee and the first view of the Sihlsee. The Gross and Chli Aubrig are facing the respective lake. We continue on the ridge with its great views to our 2nd elevation: Rosenhöchi 1507m. Heading west, we descend gently to Wisstannenalp. With a short counter ascent we reach our 3rd viewpoint high above the Sihlsee with Druesberg and Forstberg. With a view of the Sihlsee, our descent to Euthal leads over wide slopes and forests.

Conditional:     Condition for the indicated hiking time (without breaks), meters of ascent and descent as well as kilometers. This includes several ascents and descents.

Difficulty level: WT2 moderate snowshoe hike

Since the starting and ending points are at different locations, it is recommended to travel by public transport.

Equipment list:         The equipment list will be sent with the registration confirmation.

                                   With the registration the participant commits to bring the following equipment:

                                   - avalanche transceiver (3-antenna), shovel, probe.

                                   - snowshoes & poles

 

Group size:              The tour will take place with a minimum of 4 participants.

Registration

The registration has to be done at the latest 1 day before the tour at 12 o'clock by e-mail, mail (receipt by hike leader) or by phone.

*Final data - time and place - concerning the program, meeting point and travel dates will be checked again with the public transport connection a few days before the realization of the tour and can possibly be adapted accordingly.
